AED Donated To AYSES

CPR/AED Training Conducted For Coaches and Team Managers

We are very happy to announce that AYSES Soccer Club now owns an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) machine.  This AED machine was donated by and through the efforts Kyle Shea’s Miracle Foundation, Fastex First Aid and American Heart Association,.  In addition to the donation of the AED, Fastex First Aid hosted a free CPR/AED training for coaches and team managers of AYSES Soccer Club.  The training was hosted by Mr. Michael Riggs.  We are very grateful to Mrs Kyle Shea and Mr. Michael Riggs for their generosity.  We also want to thank American Heart Association for their effort.  The AED machine will be available at the concession in case it is needed.  We recognize that the AED machine is expensive and urge anybody who uses it to take good care of it.

As you may know, heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in this country.  Proper administration of CPR and AED can be a life saver in the event that somebody’s heart stops functioning.  Every second is critical in the situation and knowing what to do is very critical in saving a life.  We are glad that a few more AYSES people are now knowledgeable on what to do.

We have contacted Fairview Fire Department and have agreed to designate the white house at Fairview Soccer Park (FSP) on the left just before the parking lot (at the end of the paved road) as the meeting point in case of emergency.  Given the size of the facility and the number of cars and people that can be available at an event, it can be difficult to locate the exact location of the incident.  Given that every minute is crucial, we ask that one of the first things you do after calling 911 is to send somebody to the small house to wait and direct the emergency vehicles to the exact location of the incident.

How did all this come about?  AYSES member, Rene Dominquez and her daughter, Yazmin, were watching the news one weekend and heard about the young teen that went into cardiac arrest at a soccer game at Carpenter Park.  Yazmin, who is an advocate for American Heart Association, since her father passed away at an early age due to a heart disease, turned to Rene and asked a question that she simply could not answer. She asked, "Mom, what plan of action does AYSES have for their players?  Are the coaches and managers CPR trained?  Is there a defibrillator on the premises?  And if so, who all is trained in using it?  The nearest hospital is approximately 15min/8.5 miles away.  If medical treatment is not administered immediately, chances for survival are slim to none.  "WOW, those were very important questions that simply could not be answered.

Rene addressed these concerns with AYSES and has taken action.  She reached out to friends at American Heart Association who put her in contact with a couple of great organizations, Kylee Shea's Miracle Foundation and Fastex First Aid Training.  From there, everything lead to where we are now.

We are very grateful to Renee and Yazmin for taking a personal experience and turning it into a positive.  All this is possible because they took the initiative.  Because of it,  A LIFE CAN BE SAVED.  We urge you to support Fastex, Kyle Shea’s Miracle Foundation and American Heart Association.  They are all doing a great job in helping save lives from heart disease.
